Last year I completed my Masters in the Sociology of Education. It's been five months since I handed in my dissertation on phone bans in schools and I am starting to get the urge to research and write again. I've considered doing a PhD but, frankly, I like to be able to pay my rent and shop in M&S so unless I win the lottery I don’t think it’s happening. This writing will be in lieu of a PhD. It won’t be as rigorous as a PhD but it will have more personality.
Speaking of personality, I am not going to use LLMs at all in the creation of this. I am bored of the bland ChatGPT present and a bit scared of the ChatGPT future. So if I say anything stupid, it’s all my fault.
I plan to write the next post on the philosophy (?) of our fascist tech edge/overlords because I accidentally became an expert in loads of the stuff that is now hitting the mainstream via Trump. I also plan to write some posts based on the stuff I had to trim out of my dissertation. Most of this is around how young people critically engage with technology. There are some interesting things going on with young people resisting technology of their own volition, but most writing and media seems to focus on adult control of their devices (phone bans etc.)
Til next time.
